Undergraduate : A regular undergraduate student will be considered to be in good standing if the student maintains the minimum quadmester GPA 2.0. Quadmester hours attempted includes courses in which a student earns grades of A, B, C, D, F, S, U, and all transfer credits. It does not include courses in which a student earns grades of I, AU, or W.
Graduate: A graduate student with a GPA below 3.0 will be put on probation. For two consecutive quadmesters with a less than 3.0 GPA, the student will be suspended from the university. Readmissions will not be allowed for at least one half year.
Class Standing: In order to acquire upper-division (junior or senior) standing, a candidate for the Bachelor of Science degree must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours. Without upper-division standing, students will not be allowed to accumulate more than 15 credit hours of upper-division course work, i.e. courses numbered 300 or above. Exceptions to this policy require the approval of the student’s Department Chair.
Academic Suspension : Undergraduate students who fail to achieve the minimum GPA for a second consecutive quadmester will be placed on academic suspension unless their cumulative GPA is 2.0 or better. A student on academic suspension is denied the privilege of enrolling at the University of Northern Virginia for a specified period of time.
Duration of Suspension: Undergraduate suspension from the University of Northern Virginia will be for one regular quadmester. Second and subsequent suspensions will be for one calendar year.
Readmission:
There are two instances when a student has to reapply for admission:
- after having been suspended for one quadmester
- after having not registered for any courses in a year.
If accepted for readmission, a student on academic probation or suspension will be automatically placed on probation. Failure to meet the minimum GPA requirement will result in suspension from the university permanently.
