The University of Northern Virginia welcomes applications from men and women with distinguished academic credentials from all over the world.
Prospective students desiring to enter academic programs at the Virginia campus must arrange for the UNVA Admissions Office to receive the following:
1. Application form, along with a copy of the applicant's passport, US visa, or US driver's license.
2. Two professional reference letters/forms.
3. A completed Affidavit of Financial Support, notarized and with the most recent bank statement attached (and translated into English, if necessary).
4. A check for $1500 made out to the university. (Please note: This deposit, minus an administrative charge of $200, will be refunded to the student if he or she opts not to attend the Virginia campus of UNVA. However, the I-20 must be returned by the student to the Admissions Office for a refund to be issued. Please note there is a different administrative deposit required for admission into the CPT program)
5. Official transcripts (or mark sheets) from previous universities attended. These must be in the English language or accompanied by a notarized English translation. Embassies often provide translation services; please see the UNVA Admissions Office for a list of other locations in the vicinity of the university.
6. A prospective student who currently holds an I-20 from another school must complete a Transfer Form supplied by UNVA. This form along with the admission letter will be provided to the student upon successful admission.
Notes:
1. The university has English proficiency requirements for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral admissions. Applicants without official TOEFL or IELTS scores may be admitted conditionally into the Full-Time English program and must take UNVA English Placement Test upon arrival. Applicants may be exempt if they have already received secondary and higher education in English as a medium of instruction, or have passed the English Placement Test. Please refer to the catalog and Admissions Packet for further details.
2. According to American law, international students are required to enter a degree-seeking, full-time program of study.
3. We estimate that annual expenses for international students during the 2004-2005 academic year amount to approximately $23,720, inclusive of tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, board, personal expenses, transportation, mandatory accident insurance, and medical insurance. We estimate that an additional $3,500 is required for a spouse and $1,500 for each dependent.
4. As of September 1, 2004, the U.S. government has instituted a SEVIS processing fee (for the I-20 form) of $100. This is to be paid to the U.S. government - not to UNVA. Students who wish to pay this electronically can go to www.fmjfee.com.
5. The university's tuition refund policy and audit arrangement policy does not apply to international students. International students must attend all classes and be full-time.
6. If a student is in the United States under the I-20, the tuition refund policy and audit arrangement policy does not apply. It is a requirement of the I-20 that International students be full-time and attending all classes. If a student is not to study at UNVA, he or she must return the original I-20 back to the Admissions Office to receive refund of the deposit. Refund policy applies (please see Admissions Packet for details).
